The Kofax Communication Server, formerly TOPCALL Communication Server, coordinates and performs the automated exchange of information by integrating inbound and outbound communication channels. It links virtually any device such as MFPs and phone systems, media types like email, fax, SMS, MMS, voicemail and telex, and applications such as SAP, IBM WebSphere MQ and Kofax document capture products.
Organisations can exchange information in the formats most appropriate for their customers and partners, enable intelligent routing and trace information for compliance purposes.

Kofax Communication Server delivers the most stable communication capabilities based on 25 years of experience. Due to the absence of dependencies on third parties around the core functionality, it is possible to assure quality at the highest level. This tandem concept with unique message notification ensures that no confirmed message will be lost even if a component fails – regardless of which one and when.
With a consolidated and centralized communication solution, the Kofax Communication Server allows you to run all administrative tasks and interconnect with other applications at a central point. This significantly reduces cost and ensures a high transparency of all communication flow in a company. Message transfer tracking (TC/Report) ensures that communication costs will be less and can be passed on to clearing systems where they can then be allocated to individuals or departments. All relevant events are tracked to fulfill legal requirements and compliance regulations like SOX, HIPAA, Basel II, and the Patriot Act.
The capability to integrate multifunction devices (MFP) into the communications landscape of a company delivers huge cost savings potential and supports in fulfilling legal requirements. These devices are connected to the server and all incoming and outgoing documents are indexed and archived centrally. All compliance-relevant information is logged and traced automatically. Individual telephone lines are no longer required as well as additional fax cards in each MFP.
Scanning is made easy with Kofax VRS – it enables high quality scanning which in turn allows easily faxing of scanned documents. Kofax VRS allows faxing and text recognition without the need to change the settings for documents of varying brightness and contrast individually. Interfaces, such as ERP systems or to document management resources, ensure a workload reduction and thus considerably reduced costs.
Any application can be integrated with the Kofax Communication Server to accelerate mainstream business processes. Access to all services and data is granted via well documented standard interfaces (file or web-based) in a secure and consistent way. For individual needs, we offer a developer API, either for your own usage or by engagement with a Kofax professional services team. Application connectors easily provide communication capabilities to enterprise applications such as MS Exchange, Lotus Notes, SAP, and IBM WebSphere MQ.
Kofax Communication Server provides a server independent, 'plug-and-play' gateway that plugs into the LAN and to the telephone line(s). Instead of having to do complex cabling between the fax server and the PBX, the Line Server can simply be placed next to the PBX and connected to the LAN. To enhance reliability, multiple line servers can be used. In the event of a hardware failure, the line server can be replaced, without the need to open or shut down PCs and replace PCI cards. The Line Server is a self maintaining box, great for branch offices without local IT assistance. The pre-configured boxes can be shipped to several destinations where they can be connected into the main office system - little or no configuration & maintenance is needed.
With Fax over IP (FoIP) enterprises can leverage their existing IP infrastructure and reduce their total cost of ownership. Companies with VoIP infrastructure in place can make use of the existing infrastructure (e.g. gateways) and have all the advantages of traditional fax (transactional safe – still real-time connection based, secure and format insensitive). Proprietary hardware is not needed and individual telephone lines for fax become obsolete.
Kofax Communication Server Voice over IP (VoIP) channels provide savings potential for companies using voice functionalities (such as Alerting, Escalation, Broadcast and IVR – Interactive Voice Response) by integrating into all PABXs with a H323 or SIP interface.
Enhanced functions such as MWA (Message Wait Agent – blinking lamp on telephone if a new message is in inbox, either fax or any other) are available for Cisco Call Manager via a native integration component.
Secure Document Delivery (SDD) ensures that all paper-based documents (including fax) can be sent via email and comply with legal requirements. SDD allows orders, confirmations, billing information and other sensitive and legally binding documents to be automatically converted to email, containing a standard Adobe PDF or TIFF link that is hosted on a web server. This delivery method guarantees that the recipient receives the document formatted as the sender intended. It also makes it possible to trace who received and when they opened, processed or forwarded the message. All transactions are automatically archived (including the audit trail).
A complex infrastructure is no longer needed to encrypt e-mails because they are stored on a secure (SSL) Kofax Communication Server. Additionally, access to the information can be made more secure by integrating an authorisation process requiring a username and password. Since all processes are recorded, the system can inform the sender automatically if the message is not downloaded within a predefined time and parallel. The system automatically escalates the message to the recipient by using different channels (voicemail, SMS, etc).
